Hello fans, today am going to put you through on how to fix/redirect 404 error page not found. A 404 error page tells you and search engines that a page is not found by displaying a text like “Sorry the page you were looking for in this blog does not exist.” Sometimes you will often notice that visitors come to a page which doesn't exist on your blog, either by clicking a broken link (unreachable link) or typing a wrong URL.  Normally, this may result bad user experience. But as a webmaster and a blogger, it is our concern to avoid misleading with a status message. With the help of Google Webmaster Tools, page not found site errors can be identified in Blogger. It also does the same for any website capable of verifying ownership with Google Webmaster tools.

The step below will put you in the right direction in order to resolve the error, we will follow the error handling mechanisms in blogger.

Seting Custom 404 error page message in Blogger:

    1.      Go to Blogger and open your blog Setting in Dashboard
    2.      Under settings click on Search preferences. There you will find Errors and re-directions.
    3.      Now edit Custom Page Not Found option and enter the message which you would like to notify       your users about the error page.
    4.      Now copy and paste the following code inside the empty box

     Sorry, the page you're looking for in this blog does not exist.

    You will be redirected to homepage shortly.
   <script type="text/javascript">
   PNF_redirect= setTimeout(function(){
  Location.pathname="/"
  }, 5000);
  </script>

     5.      Then save changes.
Note:  The text which is going to be displayed can be modified as you want. If you are willingly to redirect the 404 error page to another page other than Homepage, just replace pathname to href and / with the url of your page. Lastly, the number 5000 which is the delay expressed in milliseconds can be changed to other value

You can verify the 404 error page functionality by adding a random text at the end of your blog address, after that press enter and you will see the error page with the message followed by a redirection after 5 seconds.

This option will helps you to drive your old visitors to new relocated page or home page.
